It's 5 o'clock Somewhere

7:19 PM

Wait, it’s Monday already?? What the hell?! I swear it was just Friday and I was enjoying a lovely happy hour with my colleagues. Something I don’t do nearly enough, but need to get in the habit of. I’ll admit, finding outfits that transition from the office to happy hour can be a bit tricky, as you don’t want to look like a spinster at the bar, but you don’t want to look like a hussy for your boss…what’s a girl to do!?

Tip 1: Don’t look like a hussy, ever.
Sure you’ll get lots of attention, but attention and respect are not the same thing. And respect is what we want ladies!

Tip 2: Layer
I couldn’t survive in the Fashion world without layering. It’s practically the only thing that gets me through Chicago winters. And it’s perfect for transitioning to the bar after hours. Try a sleeveless dress with a cardigan for work, and simply remove the cardigan at the bar. Or remove that motorcycle jacket for work, but edge up the outfit after work! There are so many options for layering that it is single-handedly the most important tip to being able to transition work wear to happy hour.

Tip 3: Flats
Working in downtown Chicago means walking – a lot. Don’t believe me, see my post about how I stay on my feet so much here! While I wear my heels the vast majority of the time, I always and I mean ALWAYS have a pair of flats on hand just in case. I mean, what if you break your heel, break your strap or break your toe!? Or in the case of these fabulous Steve Madden leopard booties, what if the flats are just a lot more comfortable and a lot more fun for the outfit!? Whatever the reason, always have flats in your bag. You don’t want to be 3 drinks in, stumbling to the train in 4 inch heels. And face it, sometimes you and the girls get carried away at happy hour. It’s life, it happens :)

Tip 4: Say yes, even if you want to say no
Yea this may have nothing to do with fashion, but is crucial! The older I get, the more easily I’m finding it to become introverted. I mean I am tired, I’ve worked all day, I’ve blogged all night, my fiancé and my puppies are waiting for me at home, blah blah blah. You – YES YOU – need to have a little fun in your life. Sure, the puppies are fun, your fiancé is fun and those really cozy flannel PJ’s are calling your name. But your girlfriends are fun too…and they are only asking for one night. Just say yes! Plus sharing those experiences and laughs always gives me a fresh perspective, and some really fun stories for later. (I may have just written a pep talk to myself on the blog lol, but hopefully it will benefit someone else too!)

So there ya have it…the four easiest tips in the world to help you find your fashionable little way from the copier to the coat check at the local happy hour. Now, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere right?
